    Technical overview

    About these figures

These figures provide simplified information for searching, filtering and initial comparison. They are not a complete specification. Exact details depend on the model and configuration.

Power rating: Usually the motor’s rated mechanical output (P2). Electrical input power (P1) is a different value. Check the product’s nameplate or manufacturer’s documentation to confirm which rating applies.

Outlet size: The nominal size class is expressed on a millimetre basis: for example, DN40 denotes a nominal 40 mm size. It does not specify the exact measured opening, connection type, thread, flange drilling or pressure rating.

Head and flow: Indicative figures describing the pump’s performance envelope, rather than a single operating duty point. Do not assume maximum flow is available at maximum head, or that every combination within the ranges is achievable. Minimum figures do not establish safe continuous operating limits. Consult the relevant performance curve.

Check the product description, nameplate and manufacturer’s documentation before selection or installation. Please contact us before purchasing if you need help confirming suitability or connection details.

    Flygt MP 3068.170 HT 214 – 1.7kW 3PH 415V Submersible Macerator Pump #5034 USED

The Flygt MP 3068.170 HT 214 is a submersible macerator pump for sewage and wastewater duties requiring solids reduction. Its grinder mechanism breaks down suitable solids and fibrous material before discharge, making it useful in pressure sewage systems where wastewater must be transferred through relatively small diameter pipework.

Flygt is part of the Xylem Group, manufacturing pumps and equipment for wastewater collection, treatment and drainage.

This pump is supplied USED and may show signs of previous installation, cosmetic wear, paint loss, corrosion staining or marks from service and storage. Please refer to the listing photographs for its visible condition.

    • 1.7kW motor with three-phase electrical supply
    • Macerator / grinder design for wastewater requiring solids reduction
    • HT high-head hydraulic with curve/impeller code 214
    • P installation for a compatible guide-rail discharge arrangement
    • Used industrial pump – stock reference #5034
    • 6-month guarantee included from The Pump Dealer

    Manufacturer specification:
The Flygt 3068 technical specification includes several different pump variants. Refer to the M-pump 3068.170/.890 section and the 1.7kW, three-phase, 214 curve for this listing.

    Technical note – voltage:
Voltage is listed as 415V for search purposes. This is a three-phase 50Hz pump. Where the motor nameplate specifies 230V Δ / 400V Y, it can operate on 3 × 230V in Delta or 3 × 400V in Star. The 230V option still requires a three-phase supply and does not allow direct connection to an ordinary single-phase socket. The supply voltage, winding connection and protection settings must follow the actual motor nameplate and manufacturer instructions.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the model number mean?

    • M – Macerator / grinder hydraulic
    • P – Guide-bar wet-well installation with automatic discharge connection
    • 3068 – Pump series
    • .170 – Non-explosion-proof model variant
    • HT – High-head pressure class
    • 214 – Curve/impeller reference, not a 214mm impeller diameter

What applications is this pump suitable for?

Typical applications include sewage collection and wastewater transfer from residential, commercial and similar premises where a pressure drainage system is required. A grinder pump can be useful when gravity drainage is impractical because of distance, elevation or site layout.

Selection should consider the wastewater composition, required flow, vertical lift and pipework resistance. Being a sewage pump does not make it suitable for every industrial effluent or slurry.

What is the difference between a macerator pump and an ordinary sewage pump?

A macerator pump reduces suitable solids using a cutting or grinding mechanism. A conventional solids-handling sewage pump generally aims to pass solids through its hydraulic passages without deliberately grinding them.

Reducing solids can help with pressure sewage systems using smaller pipework, but the pipe diameter must still be selected for the required flow, friction losses and system design.

Can it grind any material entering the sump?

No. A grinder should not be treated as a general waste disposal machine. Stones, metal, excessive grit and other hard or abrasive debris can damage or wear the cutting mechanism. Long fibres and unsuitable waste can still cause problems, so good wastewater management remains important.

What are the main disadvantages of a macerator pump?

The cutting components introduce additional wear points and require inspection. Abrasive material can accelerate wear, while unsuitable objects may jam or damage the mechanism. Cutter condition and clearance can affect performance, making maintenance particularly important when assessing a used pump.

What head and flow can this version produce?

The published three-phase 214 curve indicates approximately 23–24 metres shut-off head. This is the head at zero flow, not a normal operating duty.

Available flow decreases as system resistance increases. Maximum head and maximum flow are not delivered together. Please provide your required flow, vertical lift, pipe length and pipe diameter so suitability can be checked against the correct curve.

What does the 1.7kW rating mean, and what current does it draw?

The 1.7kW rating is motor output, not electrical consumption. Flygt’s 400V, 50Hz reference data lists 3.8A rated current and 2695rpm.

Actual electrical input depends on loading and motor efficiency. Use the fitted motor nameplate when selecting the starter, cable and overload settings.

Can I connect this pump to an ordinary 230V or 240V socket?

No. This listing is for a three-phase motor, which cannot be connected directly to an ordinary single-phase socket. Any proposed alternative supply arrangement requires assessment of the actual motor and installation.

How is a P installation pump fitted?

The pump descends along two guide bars and connects automatically to a compatible discharge connection at the bottom of the wet well.

The existing pedestal, guide arrangement and pump connection must match. The model designation alone does not confirm that guide rails, a discharge pedestal, lifting chain or other installation accessories are included with this used item.

Will it fit my existing discharge connection?

Please send photographs and dimensions of your existing base connection, guide rails and pump outlet arrangement. Matching the brand or nominal pipe size alone is insufficient to establish compatibility. Any adapters or replacement fittings should be identified before purchase.

Does it need a separate control panel or float switch?

An automatic installation needs suitable motor starting, overload protection and level control. Depending on the system, level sensing may use float switches or another compatible controller.

Do not assume that a control panel, float switch or monitoring equipment is included. Any fitted motor protection or sensor connections should be identified and incorporated correctly into the installation.

What are the main application limits?

The standard specification gives 40°C maximum liquid temperature, 20m maximum immersion depth and 15 starts per hour maximum.

Maximum immersion depth is not the same as delivery head. Wet-well levels and operating cycles should be set to maintain the required cooling and prevent excessive cycling or dry running.

    Is this an explosion-proof pump?

No. The 3068.170 is the non-explosion-proof variant. It should not be selected for an installation requiring an Ex-certified pump.

Can this replace my existing Flygt pump?

Possibly, but the complete model code, electrical supply, duty point and installation connection need to be checked. Pumps within the 3068 range can have different hydraulics and performance.

Please send a clear photograph of your existing nameplate, together with pictures of the discharge connection and installation. We can help assess suitability before purchase.

What guarantee and technical support are provided?

This used pump includes a 6-month guarantee from The Pump Dealer. We also provide technical advice before purchase. Call 01803 220416 and quote stock reference #5034.
