    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the model number mean?

    • N – Flygt Adaptive high-efficiency wastewater hydraulic design, developed to help keep flow paths clear and sustain performance in solids and long-fibre wastewater duties
    • X – Optional installation arrangement with drilled flange connection and no predetermined mechanical connection. Suitable for flexible wet well or dry well installation configurations
    • 3127 – Pump model series
    • .161 – Standard non-explosion-proof version
    • SH – Motor / pressure class designation
    • 246 – Impeller code

What applications is this pump suitable for?

This model is intended for pumping wastewater containing solids and fibrous material, as well as clean water and surface water. It is commonly used in municipal sewage, industrial effluent and drainage duties where reliable operation is required and where ragging or build-up can cause blockages for conventional impellers.

    What does adaptive mean?

Adaptive refers to the hydraulic’s ability to adjust internal clearances when bulky debris passes through the pump. In practical terms, the impeller can move slightly along the shaft under load, temporarily increasing clearance to help rags and fibrous material pass, before returning to its normal position for efficient operation.

Why would I choose an Adaptive N pump?

It aims to combine the hydraulic efficiency of a channel-style wastewater impeller with clog resistance closer to that of a vortex pump. In real wastewater duties this can reduce unplanned blockages while still maintaining stronger efficiency than a pure vortex design.

    What Adaptive N is not

Adaptive N does not make a pump immune to all ragging or unsuitable applications. Correct pump selection, operating point and installation remain essential, and performance should always be verified against the manufacturer curve and actual site conditions.

How can this X version be installed?

X-designation pumps are supplied with a drilled flange connection and no predetermined mechanical installation arrangement. This allows the pump to be configured for wet well installations, or for dry well arrangements where the correct cooling system or de-rated motor arrangement is used.

The drilled flange connection allows the pump to be connected directly to suitable DIN flange pipework, or fitted with flange-mounted accessories such as a hose elbow, discharge elbow or guide-rail claw.

Where required, different adaptor claws can be fitted to suit existing guide-rail systems from manufacturers such as Grundfos, Wilo, Lowara, KSB, Sulzer or similar. Please send photos of your existing pipework, discharge connection or guide-rail arrangement and we can advise on compatibility before purchase.

Dry well use must be confirmed against the manufacturer installation requirements before installation.

Can this replace my existing Flygt pump?

In many cases, yes. If you provide your existing model number or duty point, we can confirm suitability before purchase.

Please send photos of your current discharge connection, guide rail arrangement and installation layout and we can advise on compatibility before purchase.

    Do you offer technical support?

Yes — we provide free technical advice prior to purchase. Please call 01803 220416.
