    What does the AQQV shaft seal mean?

    The AQQV shaft seal is an unbalanced O-ring type mechanical shaft seal with a fixed seal driver, silicon carbide rotating face, silicon carbide stationary seat and FKM / Viton elastomers.

    The final letter is important: V means FKM / Viton elastomers. This differs from an AQQE seal, where the final E would indicate EPDM elastomers.

    Why choose an AQQV seal?

    The silicon carbide / silicon carbide face pairing is a hard-wearing seal arrangement used where improved wear resistance is required compared with softer carbon-based seal faces. The FKM elastomers can offer better compatibility with some liquids than EPDM, but suitability still depends on the exact liquid, temperature, pressure and concentration.

    What liquids can this pump be used with?

    This pump is intended for clean, non-aggressive liquids compatible with the cast iron pump housing, stainless steel hydraulic components and AQQV shaft seal. Typical duties include clean water, treated water and suitable process-water applications.

    Not suitable for:

    • Liquids containing solids or fibres
    • Dirty water, wastewater or drainage duties
    • Flammable or explosive liquids
    • Liquids incompatible with cast iron, stainless steel or FKM elastomers
    • Seawater or aggressive saline solutions unless full material compatibility has been confirmed

    Can this be used with glycol?

    Water-glycol mixtures may be suitable, but the exact glycol type, concentration, inhibitor package, temperature and duty point must be checked. This pump is fitted with an AQQV seal, which uses silicon carbide / silicon carbide seal faces and FKM elastomers.

    Glycol can increase liquid density and viscosity, which may reduce hydraulic performance and increase motor load. For glycol duties, the final duty point should be checked against the installed system conditions before ordering.

    Does this pump have built-in motor protection?

    The product data lists no built-in motor protection. Suitable overload protection and electrical installation should be provided by a qualified electrician in accordance with the motor nameplate and site requirements.
