Does the motor need overload protection?

Is this suitable for glycol?

Is this suitable for oils or fuels?

Not as a standard configuration. The Grundfos CM range can be supplied for a wide range of clean industrial liquids, and the data booklet does mention oil as a possible liquid category in some temperature-control applications. However, Grundfos also notes that the pump materials and shaft seal must be selected to suit the specific liquid.

This pump is fitted with an AQQE mechanical shaft seal, using silicon carbide / silicon carbide seal faces and EPDM elastomers. EPDM is generally selected for water-based duties rather than mineral oils or fuel-related liquids.

For oil duties, the Grundfos data booklet separately references FKM / oil without water with a listed temperature range of -20°C to +120°C. That indicates oil applications normally require the correct oil-compatible elastomer and seal selection, rather than assuming a standard EPDM/AQQE pump is suitable.

For that reason, this pump should not be advertised for mineral oil, diesel, petrol, fuel oil or similar hydrocarbon duties unless Grundfos liquid compatibility has been checked for the exact liquid, concentration, temperature, viscosity and operating pressure.

Can this be used as a pressure boosting pump?

Yes, subject to correct sizing and system design. CM pumps are commonly used for pressure boosting and water transfer duties. The pump should be selected against the required flow, head, inlet pressure, available NPSH and control arrangement.
