What liquids is HQQV suitable for?

The FKM / Viton secondary seals make HQQV suitable for selected liquids where FKM is the correct elastomer. Grundfos lists FKM as excellent for oils and fuels, with a mineral-oil temperature reference of up to 200°C.

FKM is not a universal upgrade over EPDM. Grundfos rates FKM as poor for glycols and alkalis, and good only under certain conditions for acids, solvents and abrasive-particle duties.

Can this be used with glycol?

Based on Grundfos' shaft seal material guidance, FKM / Viton is not the preferred choice for glycol duties. FKM is rated poorly for glycols, while EPDM is rated excellent for glycols.

For water-glycol mixtures, do not assume HQQV is suitable just because the pump size matches. Check the existing fitted seal code and Grundfos documentation. In many water-glycol duties, an HQQE seal with EPDM secondary seals may be the more appropriate option, subject to the exact pump and operating conditions.

Can this be used instead of HQQE?

Not automatically. HQQV and HQQE may share the same silicon carbide / silicon carbide seal faces, but the secondary seal material is different. HQQV uses FKM / Viton; HQQE uses EPDM. The correct version depends on the pumped liquid, temperature and the original seal specification.

Can a mechanical shaft seal run dry?
