    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the model number mean?

    • MAGNA1 – Grundfos high-efficiency circulator range
    • 32 – nominal connection size, DN32
    • 40 – maximum head class, approximately 4 m
    • F – flanged connection
    • 220 – port-to-port length in millimetres

Is this suitable to replace other DN32 circulators?

This model uses DN32 PN6/10 flanges with a 220 mm port-to-port length. Where dimensions and duty are comparable, it can replace other DN32 in-line circulators from brands such as Wilo, Lowara and KSB, subject to flange standard, duty point and control compatibility.

The advantage of an electronically controlled circulator is that it can often be adjusted during commissioning to better match the duty of the pump being replaced, rather than being locked to one fixed-speed curve.

What liquids can this pump be used with?

MAGNA1 is suitable for thin, clean, non-aggressive liquids that do not contain solid particles or fibres. Typical uses include heating water, chilled water and clean circulation duties.

Water/glycol mixtures may be used, but glycol concentration and temperature affect viscosity, performance and pump selection. Refer to Grundfos documentation and glycol supplier guidance before use with glycol mixtures.

    Not suitable for:

    • Liquids containing solid particles or fibres
    • Flammable liquids
    • Oils or aggressive chemicals
    • Sea water or aggressive saline solutions
    • Dirty water, wastewater or drainage applications

Does this pump have a mechanical shaft seal?

No. MAGNA1 is a canned-rotor circulator, so there is no conventional mechanical shaft seal.

Why choose MAGNA1 instead of MAGNA3?

MAGNA1 is usually chosen when you need a reliable, energy-efficient circulator with simpler setup and lower cost. MAGNA3 adds more advanced features such as expanded monitoring, energy metering and additional communication/control options.

Can this pump be controlled or monitored externally?

MAGNA1 includes basic control and monitoring functions including fault relay, digital start/stop input and wireless communication with Grundfos GO Remote. Please check the required control functions against your system before ordering.
