    • District heating and district cooling
    • Plant-room circulation duties
    • Replacement of matching DN50 twin-head dry-rotor circulators

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the model number mean?

    • TPD – twin-head version of the Grundfos TP dry-rotor in-line circulator range
    • 50 – nominal diameter of inlet and outlet ports, DN50
    • 60 – maximum head class, approximately 6 m
    • /2 – 2-pole motor version
    • A – basic pump version
    • F – DIN flange connection
    • A – basic materials version
    • BQQE – shaft seal code
    • DW1 – motor / voltage / speed suffix

What does the twin-head design do?

The TPD design has two parallel pump heads on a common in-line pump body. Twin-head pumps are commonly used where duty/standby operation, duty sharing or service resilience is required, depending on the system controls and installation setup.

    What does BQQE mean?

BQQE describes the mechanical seal construction and materials:

    • B – rubber bellows seal construction
    • Q – silicon carbide rotating seal face
    • Q – silicon carbide stationary seal face
    • E – EPDM elastomers

BQQE is commonly used for heating and cooling water duties compatible with EPDM. The silicon carbide / silicon carbide seal faces offer good wear resistance and are useful for hot water applications.

What liquids can this pump be used with?

This pump is typically suitable for clean circulation liquids compatible with cast iron and EPDM, including heating water, chilled water, district heating/cooling water, condensate, softened water and clean industrial circulation liquids.

Water/glycol mixtures may be used, but allowable temperature and concentration depend on the full system design, seal selection and operating conditions. Refer to the Grundfos liquid compatibility guidance before use with glycol or brines.

    Not suitable for:

    • Liquids containing solid particles or fibres
    • Flammable liquids
    • Mineral oils or synthetic oils without suitable alternative seal selection
    • Strong chemicals or solvents that attack EPDM
    • Sea water or aggressive saline solutions
    • Dirty water, wastewater or drainage duties

Is this suitable to replace other DN50 circulators?

This model uses DN50 PN6/10 DIN flanges with a 280 mm port-to-port length. Where dimensions and duty are comparable, it can replace other DN50 twin-head in-line circulators from brands such as Wilo, Lowara and KSB, subject to hydraulic duty, flange standard, electrical supply and control compatibility.

What is the difference between TPD and TPED?

TPD is the fixed-speed twin-head version of the TP dry-rotor in-line pump range. TPED is the electronically speed-controlled twin-head version with integrated variable-speed motor control. If replacing a TPED with a TPD, or vice versa, the electrical supply, control method and required pump duty must be checked carefully.

Can the motor be removed without disturbing the pipework?

Yes. The pump uses a top-pull-out design, meaning the power head can be removed for service while the pump housing remains installed in the pipework.

    Is this a new pump?

No. This item is supplied as used. It has been inspected prior to dispatch and is supplied with a 6-month guarantee.

    Who should install this pump?

Installation should be carried out by a competent heating engineer or electrician. The pump must be installed, wired and protected according to the motor nameplate, manufacturer instructions and applicable electrical regulations.
