    Control & installation notes

    • Control method: low-voltage PWM signal from a system controller
    • Signal cable: required for pump control; without it, the pump will run at maximum speed
    • Signal cable cores: signal input, signal output and signal reference
    • Reduced voltage operation: can run with reduced performance down to 160 VAC
    • Power connection: connection method depends on the exact pump model and connector type
    • Important: do not control this pump by varying the mains voltage, such as phase-cut or pulse-cascade control

    Typical applications

    • Geothermal heat pump systems
    • Cold-water circulation duties
    • Heating systems
    • Air-conditioning systems
    • Antifreeze / glycol-containing circuits, subject to temperature and mixture limits

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the model number mean?

    • UPM GEO – high-efficiency circulator range optimised for cold-water / geothermal applications
    • 25 – nominal diameter of suction and discharge ports, DN25 class
    • 85 – maximum head class, 85 dm / 8.5 m
    • 180 – port-to-port length in millimetres

    What does 230 V~ mean?

230 V~ means 230 volt AC supply. This pump is rated for 50/60 Hz.

    How is this pump controlled?

This pump is externally speed-controlled by a low-voltage PWM signal from a system controller, such as a heat pump or OEM control unit. A suitable three-core signal cable is required, with signal input, signal output and signal reference. Without the control signal, the pump will run at maximum speed.

Is this suitable as a replacement pump?

It may be suitable where the existing unit is a matching UPM GEO 25-85 180 or compatible OEM variant. Please compare the product number, port-to-port length, threaded connection, supply voltage, PWM control type and connector arrangement before ordering.

What liquids can this pump be used with?

The UPM GEO range is suitable for thin, clean, non-aggressive and non-explosive liquids that do not contain solid particles, fibres or mineral oil.

UPM GEO pumps can be used with water/antifreeze mixtures such as glycol or ethanol down to -10 °C. Higher viscosity from glycol mixtures can reduce performance and increase system pressure loss, so the mixture type, concentration and operating temperature should be checked against the system design.

    Not suitable for:

    • Liquids containing solid particles or fibres
    • Mineral oil
    • Flammable liquids such as diesel oil or petrol
    • Aggressive chemicals that may attack the pump materials
    • Dirty water, wastewater or drainage applications

Does this pump have a mechanical shaft seal?

No. UPM GEO is a canned-rotor circulator, where the pump and motor form an integrated unit without a conventional mechanical shaft seal.

Does the pump require external motor protection?

No external motor protection is normally required. The pump includes internal overload protection, but the electrical connection must still be carried out correctly and in accordance with local regulations.
